But I would suggest our silence with God is primarily the silence of lovers comfortable in each other’s presence, secure in one another’s affection. It is the silence of equality, the silence between those with nothing to prove to the other, the silence between those who have nothing to hide and nothing to fear. It is the silence of enduring friendship, unblemished by deceit.
